FIRST AID: Wound

Hey Guys. Accidents we're just around our corners. It can happen at any of the day and everyone can be a victim. So as a citizen we must help those persons in deed and in worst even ourselves. You can never be a GOOD FIRST AIDER unless you, yourself have become a victim. So whenever there is accidents, there is wound, So, here are some of the first aids you can do.


Wound is a break in the continuity of a tissue of the body either Internal (inside) or External (outside).


  • Classification of Wound

Closed Wound. The causes are Blunt object result in contusion or bruises and application of external forces.


Signs and Symptoms:

  • Pain and Tenderness
  • Swelling
  • Discoloration
  • Hematoma (Collection of blood under skin which also look like a bruise)
  • Uncontrolled Restlessness
  • Thirst
  • Symptoms of Shock.
  • Vomiting or Cough up Blood
  • Passage of Blood in Urine and feces
  • Sign of Blood along mouth, nose and ear canal.
  • Symptoms of Shock (cold Clammy Skin, Increase heart and breathing Rate, pallor, and altered sensorium.
First Aid Management:
  • Ice Apllication
  • Place a Splint on affected part
  • and elevate 1 foot if its on lower extremities.
Open Wound.
  • Classifications of Open wound
  1. Puncture (Tusok)is a deep narrow serious or slight bleeding. It's main causes are penetrating pointed objects such as nails, ice picks, daggers, etc.
  2. Abrasion (Gasgas) is a shallow, wide, oozing of blood and dirty. Its causes are  scrapping or rubbing against rough surfaces.
  3. Laceration (Hiwa) is a torn with irregular edge, serious or slight bleeding. Blunt instruments such as shrapnel's  rocks, broken glasses, etc.
  4. Avulsion (Pagkalagot) the tissues are forcefully separated from the body. It's causes are explosion, Animal bites, mishandling of tools etc.
  5. Incision (Hiwa) is a clean cut wound, deep, severe bleeding. Wound is Clean. It's causes are sharped bladed instruments such as blades, razors, etc.
The dangers of open wound  are Hemorrhage or too much or excessive loss of blood, Infection and Shock.


First Aid Management:

  • Control Bleeding, by applying pressure by pressing the site of the wound by a clean bandage, handkerchief or gauze if any.
  • Cover the wound with clean cloth.
if not severe you can do the following home care remedies:
  • Clean wound with soap and water
  • Apply mild antiseptics like Betadine.
  • Cover the wound with dressing or bandage.
